Some kids are sitting at home while the majority of the senior class is working hard at school, and they are all getting the same diploma.
How? Graduating early.
The application process for graduating early is simple. All you have to do is see your counselor and get the proper form. Last year’s 19 students graduated early, compared to this year’s 13 students, according to guidance office secretary Paige Mulka.
So why don’t all kids graduate early? The truth is, a lot of them like the high school experience, especially towards the end when you’re a senior and you don’t really need to worry about grades because almost all of the classes are easy compared to junior year.
To be eligible for early graduation, you must have at least 26.5 credits to graduate, and not all students have that many credits until the end of the year.
Keenan Conner ’15, one of the few people graduating early this year, plans to go straight to college at Kalamazoo Valley Community College after graduating early. He plans on staying with his parents for the first year after school and saving money.
Lee Gregerson ’15 has a similar plan to go to KVCC, only he plans to work while in college, and he also wants to move out and buy his own house.
