On Sept. 22nd the Pfizer Covid-19 booster shot was authorized for use. Currently, according to the Burlington Free Press, it is available for people age 65 and older. As well as those who are 18 years and older also may get the booster if they are more likely to be exposed to Covid-19 based on where they work, have certain medical conditions that put them at high risk, are black, indigionous, or a person of color. Those eligible for the Pfizer booster shot can only receive it if six months have passed since their second dose. You are still considered fully vaccinated if you do not receive the booster shot but studies have found that the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccines dwindles over time and provides less protection against the Delta variant, hence the need for the booster. “This pandemic is dynamic and evolving, with new data about vaccine safety and effectiveness becoming available every day. As we learn more about the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines, including the use of a booster dose, we will continue to evaluate the rapidly changing science and keep the public informed,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D.
