As of yesterday morning senior, Jake Brinkman, thought his goodbye to Plainwell Schools would be a small one. He had gotten all graduation requirements done early so he could leave to basic training next week and thought he would be receiving his graduation diploma quietly with his parents and grandma.
To Brinkam’s surprise, the office awaited him filled with fellow students and teachers eager to give him a good sendoff. He then got a cap and gown to wear and got to walk in front of everyone, while the “Pomp and Circumstance” played, to receive his diploma .
Eric Adams, Brinkman’s friend who had stopped by to watch the event, was recruited to be “valedictorian” and gave a speech about their time together. “Seeing him graduate was bittersweet,” said Adams.
The ceremony ended with the throwing of a cap and cake!
