The hallways flood with upperclassmen girls, a chorus of chants “Juniors!” “Seniors!” clash against one another. Two teams, one game, and a lot of excitement, this was the case at Plainwell High School Wednesday as the Juniors took on the Seniors in Powderpuff 2013.
The game was intense from kickoff, as both teams strived to put points on the board. The Seniors possessed the ball for nearly the entire first quarter but struggled to get points on the board. The emotions were apparent on the sideline.
“We were frustrated”, said Senior running back Kerry Swain ‘14.
The frustration did not end there as the Juniors struck gold with a touchdown in the 3rd quarter provided by an impressive run by Junior running back Brooke Pell ‘15, making the score 6-0 Juniors. From then on the Junior sideline, a sea of white, roared in excitement on the verge of an upset over the Seniors.
“I was excited, but really nervous. We didn’t want to mess up”, said Junior Haley Betts ‘15.
The Juniors capped off the game with a touchdown in the final minute to solidify their victory, 12-0 over the Seniors.
“It was the best feeling ever, especially because we thought we would lose”, said Junior Angel Liceaga ‘15 on the victory.
Players who stood out in the game included Tayler Doublestein ‘14 with a key interception for the Seniors as well as Pell ‘15 with many solid carries for the Juniors out of the backfield. Both were very deserving of MVP.
Although the game did not go as planned for the Seniors, Powderpuff was a great experience for both sides.
“The best part was the morning in the halls”, said Senior Liz Smith ‘14.
“Learning the Plays”, said Swain ‘14.
“The best part was getting closer with my grade”, said Liceaga ‘15.
Emotion, excitement, playmaking and teamwork, that was the definition of Powderpuff 2013.
