It was an exciting day for the individuals going on the choir trip to Chicago. The room was filled with eagerness as they waited for the buses to arrive at the school early last Friday morning. Students and parents alike were already setting expectations for the fun-filled two days ahead of them.
“ I was looking forward to The Lion King because it was the first broadway show I’ve seen,” said Seth Woltanski ‘19.
Parent chaperones agree but for different reasons, “ I was looking forward to The Lion King as well, because I’ve often heard how fantastic it is, and it was,” said parent Kimberly Nobel.
The trip to the windy city included a visit to The Museum of Science and Industry, and Navy Pier. Workshops on music and musical theatre and an comedy improv. The broadway musical The Lion King, and shopping on the magnificent mile. Along with dining at Giordano’s and The Hard Rock Cafe.
For some students it wasn’t the first trip they have been on with the choir, however this one was a little different than in years past.
“ It wasn’t as busy as in the past, it was more relaxed which made it more enjoyable. Even though it was planned we didn’t feel rushed,” said Chase King ‘16.
The trip also included some changes which required the students to participate in two workshops; one on music and musical theatre, the other on comedy improv.
“ It was fun because of the interaction. We got to participate instead of feeling like we were just sitting there,” said King.
“ I wanted to do something related to choir, and in a city like Chicago there are a lot of resources that aren’t available here, I wanted to take advantage of that,” explained choir teacher Denise Beauchamp.
