Teacher Andrew Hansen’s second hour Spanish class was the scene of two heart attacks in a 30-minute period…..kind of.
Plainwell is certified as a Michigan Heart Safe School and to keep that designation the medical/safety team has to conduct a cardiac drill, simulating a real-life emergency where someone needed CPR. The team had to run through all aspects of the scenario, from assessing the patient, to calling 911, performing compressions and breaths, and using the AED.
Teachers, along with members of the office staff and administration, plus one student, comprise the 15-member medical/safety team.
Meanwhile, the class observed, timed events, and gave feedback afterward. Ryan Cronk from Plainwell EMS also observed and helped the team debrief afterward.
