Tulip Time is Holland’s premier springtime event and each year welcomes guest from around the country. This year celebrating its 88th year May 4 through the 14.
Tulip Time is a large festival held throughout the city of Holland, Michigan each
spring. Parades march down 8th Street, a dutch market and array of other events celebrating the Dutch heritage and of course the tulips.
The Holland Michigan area boasts over five million tulips ready to burst forth in blooms each spring, coming in every shape and color.
The city offers trolley tours and park and ride to help visiters get around during the week.
The festival also features national entertainment in the evenings. Vince Gill, Walt Matske’s Four Pianos, The Bretts Show, Fiddle Fire and several others are scheduled for this year.
You can also participate in the Tulip Time quilt show, tulip pot painting, and Tulip Time musical mix lunch and show.
All through the week there is a carnival with rides and food and the carnival hosts the arts and crafts fair.
The week ends with grand finale fireworks at the Kollen Park in Holland, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Most students either don’t know or have never been to the event.
“I have no idea what that is” Brie Lopez ‘17 said “I don’t think I would go either.”
Dana Plyley ‘17 hasn’t been to the festival but believes that its something she might check out this year or next.
“It sound pretty cool and the carnival would be fun,” Plyley said.
I’ve been to the parade, but that’s all,” Katie Wingle said.
Wingle would like to go to the festival but it always seems to fall around prom season. Her cousin participates in the wooden shoe dance during the parade.
“The tulips are really pretty when it’s warm, but it was quite cold last year,” said Wingle.
