Plainwell band and choir prepared for Dec. 16 and 17 since the middle of October. Their two-month practice culminated in the Spectrum winter concert in the Performing Arts Center.
“These kids put in so much work. Words can’t describe how proud of them I am,” said band director, David Hepinstall.
When the first night finally came, they all felt ready and nervous.
“It’s all good fun,” said Jace Frederick ‘19.
It is the first time that the band and choir have collaborated together for a holiday concert.
“It’s very hard work and completely different than anything I’ve ever done before,” said choir teacher Denise Beauchamp.
Although former band director Paul Mundo resigned just weeks before the concert, Hepinstall said the band kept a positive attitude.
“We all understand that there is a job to do and we still need to do it,” said Hepinstall.
The concert began with a 60 minute piece called Carmina Burana that consists of 24 movements all in Latin and which included many solos from members of both the band and choir. Following a brief intermission, color guard presented a flag show, followed by shorter pieces by various choirs and bands.
