Some people believe winter is a wonderful season full of snow and warm feelings, but I believe winter is the worst season for the following reasons.
Firstly, mental health has been proven to decrease significantly during winter months.. Some scholars believe in a correlation between sunlight duration and suicide rates, suggesting that shorter daylight hours may lead to an increase in suicides. There is a phenomenon known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD), where the reduced sunlight in winter delays the secretion of melatonin, which regulates the body’s internal clock. This delay in melatonin secretion can result in a decrease in serotonin, a neurotransmitter that controls emotions. Seasonal affective disorder is most commonly associated with the winter season.
Secondly, your physical health can decrease in the winter. Cold external temperatures can cause muscles to cool down, leading to poor blood circulation. This decrease in blood flow reduces flexibility, increasing the risk of muscle and joint injuries. Additionally, cold temperatures can activate the sympathetic nervous system, causing blood vessels to constrict and making it easier for blood pressure to rise. The increase in blood pressure adds strain to the heart, raising the risk of serious conditions such as angina and myocardial infarction.
Lastly, though this is an unpopular opinion, the snow days. Snow days may be good for students, but if students cannot study at school, time will need to be made up and people will begin to fall behind. Only a day or two is not a big problem, but if we have many too snow days it could be detrimental to effective learning.
While winter has some good points, it still remains the worst season.
