After a promising 2019-2020 campaign for the Kalamazoo Eagles as they had lost 1 game prior to the state semifinals, the hockey team that Plainwell athletes play on are looking to try and recreate the same outcome they had going last year. 

This could be a very difficult task for the Eagles as the season is being shortened due to Covid-19 restrictions. Leading point getter for the Eagles Plainwell Senior Alexander Johnson said that Covid has affected the team’s ability to recreate what they had going last year.

“The delayed start isn’t good for anyone. We have our challenges to overcome but I’m confident we can make a run,” said Johnson ‘21

The Eagles were underestimated going into last year; a lot of their success was due to a lot of seniors contributing in every aspect of the game. The Eagles lost nine seniors following this past season.

“I think we lose a lot of experience there but we have a great group of current seniors on this team that has a ton of experience and hockey knowledge,” said Senior Captain Garett Hoard.

The Eagles have a very promising season upcoming season even though it is being shortened.  Even though the Eagles will be on a short 15-game season followed by the state tournament if they qualify will continue to work through all the ups and downs to hopefully pick up right where they left off.

The Eagles have very few players that will be returning for the ‘22 season but they have a lot of solid players who have been with the program for a couple of years. While only having one sophomore on the team, the Eagles will need to get a lot of players coming up through the club systems in Kalamazoo.
