There is nothing more debated in our society today than abortion, although many people aren’t very educated on the topic. Many states have begun passing new laws regarding abortion since 2019 has begun.

“Women should be able to make their own choices about their bodies. Women shouldn’t have to worry what other people think, because when it comes down to it the only people they should be worried about is herself and the baby,” said Laurel Beach ‘19.

The most controversial topic within most conversations about abortion is if you are pro-life or pro-choice.

“I am nothing, I just don’t think it should be a matter of you killing a life. It is a matter of circumstances,” said an anonymous female senior.

One big issue that has been brought to attention is the lack of anti-abortion laws in the United States. President Trump had said he was going to appoint new anti-abortion judges to the Supreme Court but he hasn’t gone through with it and that is a big issue in Mississippi.

“I am pro choice, mostly for the choice part of it because I don’t know all of the medical situation and reasons that lead to it. So I think women and their families need to decide,” said an anonymous female teacher.

Another big issue is that women are just saying that the baby is affecting their health and they need to abort the baby just because they don’t want to raise the child.

Unlike most states in America, China has now made laws that give the father of the unborn child the same equal rights when it comes to the decision of having an abortion or not.

“I believe that the mother should not need the father’s consent to have an abortion; the mother of the unborn fetus is the deciding factor in America for a reason. That reason being that it is the woman’s body not the man’s, it is her emotional struggle and physical struggle not his. She should not have to worry about not being able to have an abortion if she wants an abortion just because of the fact that the father of the fetus wants to raise the child,” said an anonymous female senior.
