The senior prom for the class of 2016 was held April 16, in downtown Kalamazoo at the Loft. With a theme The theme was A Night to Remember, and it sure was one.
Everyone started arriving at 8 pm and the building was filled to the max with students dressed in their finest attire.
Along with the kids the teachers got pretty groovy on the dance floor. Prom planner Julie Root and her husband attempted the move from dirty dancing as he tried to lift her into the air. Maya Buck and her date also attempted the move they said it went pretty smooth.
It was a rough start to planning prom with fundraising and slow ticket sales.
Still, Root said that it went really well and she was impressed with everyone there.
Most kids said they had a lot of fun leading up to prom also.
“Leading up to prom was really good, getting dressed, the dinner, we even had a party bus” Kyle Shannon said.
Other kids weren’t so lucky. Megan Thorp’s group had issues at the restaurant.
“Our food didn’t come and we ended up parking far from where prom was held, so until we got there it felt like a disaster and then after we had a bonfire so pretty good night” Thorp said.
Next year kids hope for more dance music and for it to be even better than this year. Brooke Pinks said that the venue was beautiful and it was a great place to have prom.
“A few more slow songs and danceable music would have been nice but overall I had a lot of fun” Pinks said.
