Girls dressed as Disney princesses, Hawaiian natives, and white fathers on a safari trip sum up Plainwell’s spirit week pretty well. The activity filled week leading up to Snowcoming, which will be held on Valentine’s Day this year, did not seem to disappoint.
It was just another normal year at testerone, seniors winning against the juniors taking place on Monday. It was a tight game, seniors winning by just one point in the fifth match. Although the game is just for fun and to make fun of the boys wearing short shorts, tensions always rise between the boys on the court.
“I really enjoyed watching the boys come so close to winning. They needed lots of practice, but I think it paid off,” said Allison Zyzelewski ’16, one of the junior coaches.
The spirit week is all leading up to the big game, Friday, Feb. 13, against Three Rivers at home. The following day is Valentine’s Day when the dance will be held.
The Snowcoming dance this year was themed Sadie Hawkins, and many girls got creative when asking a guy or friend. Girls surprised their dates with homemade banners and cakes during lunch, while boys sweated and squirmed in their seats realizing they will have to live up to their legend next time a dance comes around.
“At first I wasn’t big on the idea of girls asking guys, but it’s senior year. I had nothing to lose,” said Mara Minott ’15.
Who says you have to wait until Friday to get pumped up for the big Snowcoming game? The spirit days throughout the week gets everyone worked up in the anticipation of the game.
“The days are meant to get everyone excited for the big game, and I wish more people would participate,” says Mariah Crandall ’16.
This week was jam packed of fun stuff to do. School isn’t always boring when your teachers dress up like cowboys and Disney characters for the spirit days, and you get to watch people ask others to Snowcoming. Let’s hope Snowcoming can live up to the same standards the week has set.
