Valentine’s Day Shouldn’t Be A Holiday

Izzy Keckler

Valentines just shouldn’t be a holiday, and I’m going to tell you why. When I was younger, we used to have Valentine’s parties. I loved Valentine’s day. I mean you got lots of candy from your peers, and just had a good time in general. It’s a little different in high school.

As a single student, I feel that Valentine’s is the worst holiday ever. It’s not that it has a bad meaning! I mean what really is Valentine’s? It’s all about love right? Well, I’m for sure not in a relationship but Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be the only day that people need to share the love.  There cannot be just “one day” to express love. It should be an everyday thing.  You can show your love to your family, friends, even strangers!

I mean hey, if you are in a relationship, good for you! Have fun spending money on your significant other on this special day.  My highlight of Valentine’s Day would probably be my mom giving me a piece of chocolate, out of her box of chocolates that my dad gave to her. I just feel that if it’s a holiday it should include everyone.

Maybe my story would be different if we didn’t have school on this ¨holiday,” but we do when it falls on a school day (which this year, it doesn’t). They could at least give us the day off right as we do for other holidays like Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, etc.  I think they should, the singles want a good day too! I know some people might not agree with me, but Valentine’s Day should not be a holiday.
